San Francisco 49er's linebacker Aldon Smith just can't seem to figure it out and at this point, he needs to be focusing on his personal well-being first, and his NFL career second.
Thursday night in Santa Clara, California, the 25-year old Smith was arrested for another DUI, the third time this has happened since he was drafted in 2011- this time the DUI was accompanied by hit & run and vandalism charges... Despite the fact that he said there was no DUI.
He is coming off a year where he served a nine-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse and personal conduct policies, as well.
A 49ers team source told ESPN, "He [Smith] was on a good track and was making good choices. ... There shouldn't be a rush to judgment. ... Let's not overreact and say his career with us is over."
Earlier this week, 49er's GM, Trent Baalke, insisted that the team wanted to resign Smith, who is entering a contract year, but given his most recent off the field troubles, it seems highly unlikely that they'd take another gamble on him.
It's worth noting, Smith went as far as to restructure his deal with the Niners earlier this year, which would pay him for each game he's on their 53-man roster, as an assurance that he'd be on his best behavior. So much for that.
